A memorable Homecoming

Strangely, Julianne didn't get asked to Homecoming. She'd been asked twice to every single dance her junior year, but Homecoming as a senior, nada. Granted, the dance was held very early this year...only three weeks after school started. Most dance asks had already happened during the last few weeks of summer vacation. And this past summer Julianne spent the majority of her evenings in rehearsals for Guys and Dolls at Centerpoint Legacy Theatre. The entire month of August she was performing 3-4 times a week. She wasn't around for weekend parties and hangouts before school started. It was one of those "out of sight, out of mind" things, I believe. Homecoming night rolled around and Julianne made plans to hang out with her friend Lauren (who strangely, also did not have a date).

Around midnight Julianne got a phone call from Bryson. But wait... let me provide some context first:
CONTEXT: Bryson is a boy she knows fairly well. He has been in Centrestage Theatre with her for many years, they've done Disneyland tours, school musicals at DHS, and were in the same Prom dance group last May. They are currently in daily rehearsals for Les Miserables where flirting has been happening on the regular...something that is making Julianne pretty happy.

So, back to the story...Bryson called at midnight and asked Julianne if she was still up. She said she was, but Bryson didn't elaborate as to why he wanted to know and promptly ended the phone call. Julianne was still at Lauren's house and told her she wasn't sure exactly what was going on but that maybe she should head home.

About fifteen minutes later, the doorbell rang. Julianne answered the door in her pajamas to find Bryson standing there in his suit. It was clear he had just come from the dance. "Will you go to Homecoming with me?" he asked. Julianne looked at him in confusion but said, "Yes....?" He offered her his arm and walked her down the front walk while telling her that first they needed to go to dinner. On our driveway he had set up a picnic with fries and frosty's from Wendy's for each of them. I'm not sure he knew at that point that fries and frosty's are one of Julianne's favorite treats but kudos to him for providing the perfect Homecoming "dinner." They chatted happily while they ate their little meal.

After "dinner" Bryson told Julianne it was time to go to the "dance." He pulled out his phone, turned on some music and asked, "May I have this dance?" They danced on the driveway under the stars, Bryson in his suit and Julianne in her pajamas. Then after a few songs, Bryson said it was probably time to get her back home before her curfew. He walked her back up to the door, thanked her for a wonderful evening and gave her a big hug. And then he got in his car and drove away.

Julianne came inside all aflutter. She was absolutely delighted with how sweet and creative Bryson had been. To go to all that effort after dropping his own official date off...well, she was impressed and flattered. She claims that it was one of the best dances she has ever been to.

(Spoiler alert: No surprises that this looks to be the beginning of a new relationship between the two of them.)
