Unlike Rebekah who worked summers as a lifeguard at Lagoon-a-Beach, Julianne had a hard time being available to work during her high school years, summer or otherwise. There just never seemed to be a time where she wasn't in rehearsals for some play or other making it a bit hard to commit to a job. This was something she always felt a little bad about. And when she got to college, though I tried to talk her out of it insisting that college itself was a full time job, she was insistent that she work. Even if it was just 10-12 hours a week.
Julianne and her roommate Elle, lived just down the street from a place called The Roll Up...a crepe cafe they frequented, kind of a hot spot for BYU and UVU kids alike. Julianne not only loved the crepes, but also the fun atmosphere. One day she noticed they were hiring. Elle convinced her to apply. They gave her an interview right there on the spot. Julianne thought for sure she had bombed it. She obviously hadn't prepped or put herself in the mindset to be job interviewing that particular night. However, the owners loved her quirkiness and decided to offer her the opening.
It took a few tries to make the perfect crepe without burning it, and to memorize the menu. She often worked the night shift on weekends which got her home closer to 1:00AM. But she loved working there. Loved the other employees and friends she made. Loved the fact that they had open mic nights and she was invited to sing occasionally. And loved eating crepes, of course. {Perks} Mostly she loved feeling responsible and self sufficient.
